Run Beyond Surrey: A Norwegian Mountain Adventure with Toby
If you’ve ever stood on the start line of a G3 Run Series race and felt that familiar buzz—mud on your shoes, cool air in your lungs, the Surrey hills stretching ahead—you already understand the joy of running in nature.
But imagine that same feeling… amplified.
Imagine swapping the trails of the North Downs for fjords thousands of metres deep, mountain ridges that roll for miles, and quiet trails where the only sound is wind and your own breathing.
That’s Norway.
And I’d love to show it to you.
From Surrey Trails to Norwegian Fjords
Many of you know me already. I’m Toby, one half of the team organising the G3 Run Series, alongside Rory Jenkins.
Over the past year, life has taken an exciting turn: I’ve now moved to Molde, a small coastal town surrounded by mountains and fjords. Within minutes of my front door, there are endless trails climbing into the wilderness.
And honestly—it’s some of the best running terrain I’ve ever experienced.
This part of Norway is also home to one of the greatest mountain runners the sport has ever seen: Kilian Jornet.
The Home of the World’s Greatest Sky Runner
For those who follow trail or mountain running, Kilian Jornet needs little introduction.
He’s widely considered the greatest sky runner and mountain endurance athlete in history. His achievements include:
Multiple Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB) victories
Numerous Skyrunning World Series titles
Record-breaking ascents of mountains such as Mont Blanc and Matterhorn
But what many runners don’t realise is that Kilian chose to make this part of Norway his home.
When you run these trails, you begin to understand exactly why an athlete like Kilian thrives here.
The mountains demand strength, patience, and respect.
Running here isn’t about chasing splits.
It’s about moving through wild terrain and feeling completely alive.
What Running in Norway Feels Like
Picture this.
You start the morning with crisp, cool air coming off the fjord. The trail climbs gently through pine forest before breaking out onto open mountain.
Ahead of you:
jagged ridgelines stretching across the horizon
snow patches lingering even in summer
deep blue fjords far below
complete silence except for your footsteps
There are no crowds. No traffic. No pressure.
Just you, the mountains, and miles of trail.
You can run high alpine routes, smooth gravel tracks, coastal paths, or technical ridge traverses—all within a short drive.
It’s freedom in its purest form.
A Run Holiday – Your Way
This isn’t a packaged, expensive tour.
I know many G3 runners like to keep things simple and flexible, so the idea is straightforward:
You book your own flights to Norway
I help advise on good-value accommodation locally
Then I personally guide you through the best running routes in the region
You’ll get local knowledge you simply can’t find on Google.
Hidden trails. Quiet mountain routes. Coffee stops. Fjord viewpoints. The places locals run.
Everything is organised through my new tour project:
The aim is to make this accessible to any budget runner, not just elite athletes or luxury travellers.
And here’s the truth most people discover once they arrive:
Norway really isn’t as expensive as people think, especially if you travel smart.
More Than Just Running
Of course, a trip like this is about more than training miles.
You’ll experience:
traditional Norwegian mountain cabins
coastal towns and harbours
fresh Nordic food
dramatic fjord landscapes
long summer evenings where the sun barely sets
After a day in the mountains, there’s nothing better than sitting by the water with tired legs, good food, and the quiet satisfaction of a big run behind you.
Come Run Norway With Me
The G3 Run Series has always been about community and shared adventure.
This is simply taking that spirit a little further.
From the Surrey Hills…
to the Norwegian mountains.
If the idea of running through fjords and over wild alpine ridges appeals to you, I’d love to help you experience it.
You’ll arrive as visitors.
But by the end of the week, you’ll feel like you’ve discovered your own private mountain playground.
And I’ll be there to guide the way.
